Portraits in the sea of lies


The suvarna chakoram winner film of IFFK 2010, directed by Carlos Gaviria, one of the famous Latin American director. The all movie deals the internal calamity of Colombia.
It is produced in the time of internal riot in Colombia. Carlos directed it as a road movie. He tries to reveal the complexity and struggles of Colombians.
He used to tell the story with two character’s life struggle. Marina and her cousin Jayroe are the two main characters in this movie. Marina’s grandfather died, so she compelled to travel to her homeland. Her cousin insists to leave Bayotta the capital city of Colombia. They planned to travel.
Through out the traveling they face so many problems like military checking, and assault of republicans. Marina is the central character in the movie. Through her eyes, director reveals the problems of a Colombian. Jayroe is bachelor and he did not give any important to anything. He used photography as his profession. And he wanted to be a great fashion photographer. Jayroe indulge in his own happiness avoiding Miyage. It was given great pain to Maria. She defenses all the bad habits of Jayroe with her silence.
It is a great road movie which is dealing the internal politics in a proper manner.

Buried secrets


The second film of Tunisian director Raja Amari. An adult girl named Aicha lives with her own unmarried sister and mother in a banded bungalow. It is a building which was built for the servants and its going to fell down. Aicha and her family had been living here for a long year with unseeing others. They wanted to hide them from others. And they scared about something. They used to earn their daily wages through her sister’s stitching clothes. They only get outside from the bungalow to sell these cloths and to buy some other house holds.
At this time new couple has came to this bungalow to reside. From this time onwards the story changed to another way of life. Aicha our heroine tried to indulge in their modern life. But her mother and sister deny. She used to peep through the window in order to imitate their lively hoods. She also attracts with their modernity. She wanted to be so but her mother and sister did not allow.
The entire film is about the Tunisian women’s mind’s calamity to accept modernity by disregarding antique culture. The film is basically a feminist film. It all dealt about women. The film was directed in the mood of fairy tale using good colour tone.

japanese wife


It is an Indian movie directed by Aprna sen based on the novel of Indian-English writer Kunal Basu. The movie told about the relation between an Indian village teacher and a Japanese girl. A Bengali village teacher named Snehmoil and Japanese girl named Miyage are pen-friends. Their relation slowly develops to love and decided to marry. The most amazing thing in this love is, they never seen each other but their only way of communication is mail. They communicate through only with mails.
The story began to change when, Sandhya – a widow- and her 8 year child named Portu came there. The relation between Snehmoil and Miyage became false when Sandhya came their. Portu and Snehmoil became good friends and they spend more time each other. But Snehmoil cannot blind against his Japanese wife’s love and care. They used to send letters every week. They used to send their gifts also.
Meantime Miyage got cancer. Snehmoil became very sad and depressed . He wish to meet Miyage but he did not have enough money to travel Japan. So he tried to send some Indian medicines to Japan. He meet Allopathic, Homeopathy and ayurvedic also, but the all physicians insist him that to get the patient India. Meanwhile he got pneumonia, because of wet in the heavy rain. Because of the lack of hospital facility he died. At the end we see that Miyage came to the village to live with the golden memories of Snehmoil.
The entire location is beautiful and amazing. Every sequence in the movie was delightful and enjoyable.
